EXTRAORDINARY LOVE

20+ years as a Positive Psychology Coach, Educational Consultant, KidKoach™, MindSet & Study Skills Instructor, Tutor, Parenting Coach, Career Advisor, Adjunct Professor, and Girl Scout Leader have taught me quite a few things about children. Of course, I thought I knew it all. I then discovered that NOTHING had taught me as much about children as being a parent.

Hands-on is everything, right? I know you can relate. And, as parents we have so much in common.

Every time I read one of those big-magazine posts that simply lists all the things that we’ve ALL done out of love, as parents, (yet touts them as extraordinary accomplishments) I am reminded that, yes, indeed, we DO all have much in common.

For instance, we’ve ALL:

  • pushed swings at the park or yard
  • sat up worried during a child’s sickness
  • put off an important phone call during a doc appointment
  • worried about our children’s development
  • played in the snow
  • hosted playdates and birthday parties
  • etc., etc.

Are these common actions and parental shows of love? Yes. Are these actions and shows of love somehow EXTRAORDINARY, as the magazines would have us believe??? Nah. To me, these activities and actions are basic parenting – a loving, nurturing, type of parenting, but still Parenting 101, if you will.

As shapers of our children’s lives, we need a fresh perspective: we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

Extraordinary is not common. Extraordinary is different.

Extraordinary is giving your children tools for the world by teaching them HOW to:

  • really learn
  • have grit and put in “the effort”
  • have resilience and bounce back from “failure”
  • be authentic and honest (to themselves, first & foremost)
  • stand up for kindness and have character
  • FLOURISH, ACHIEVE TRUE HAPPINESS, & SUCCEED!

A fresh perspective. A higher standard. Real shaping. Extraordinary Love.
