‘SMALL BUSINESS’ IS A MISNOMER

The term ‘Small Business’ is a misnomer.

Your business, regardless of profit margin, number of employees, or client list size, is HUGE, because it is YOUR business, YOUR baby, YOUR life. There’s no such thing as small; WIN BIG, LOSE BIG.

As the saying goes – “Play big, or go home.”

Ok, so that being said, how do you play big? Do you let your business overshadow all else and spend 20 hours per day in front of your computer screen, or writing proposals, or formulating content?

Yes. And No.

Do not let anything overshadow your marriage, your children, your other responsibilities. Only you know what’s right when it comes to your life.

BUT…if you are a business OWNER, you are the lifeline of your biz.

That means, you do the:

  • marketing
  • bookkeeping
  • content writing
  • copy writing
  • email writing
  • graphic designing
  • web designing
  • computer maintenance
  • software purchasing & installation
  • list-building and CRM maintenance
  • price-structuring
  • hiring (and firing)
  • sourcing
  • etc. etc. etc. …

& THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ACTIVITIES – SEEING CLIENTS & PERFORMING THE TASKS OF YOUR BUSINESS!

You do it all, and sometimes, just sometimes, those 20 hour days are not only unavoidable, the are actually a labor of love.

Hell, I dream about my business | clients | software | research updates … Yes – literally.

Behold the business OWNER! There’s nothing ‘small’ about it.

FACT #1: The MORE you’re involved in the daily on-goings, at least & especially at the beginning, the BETTER. You NEED to understand your numbers – your ROI, your P&L, your conversion rates, the workings of your website – if you are to ever grow & succeed! Your business is YOUR baby – not your accountant’s, your web designer’s, or your copywriter’s. No one will care about it as much as you.

FACT #2: 20 hours per day – hell, 15 hours per day – says something about YOU and your DREAM. This would be the labor of love I referenced earlier. Hard, possibly painful, but absolutely worth it. You are doing all of this for a reason. And, for the most part, if you are dedicating that kind of time, passion, and yes, sometimes heartache, to it, you LOVE IT and love the DREAM attached to it.

KEEP DREAMING. BE YOURSELF. WORK YOUR ASS OFF. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES.

See that? Told ya there’s nothing ‘small’ about your biz. 🙂
